How to Install a Cupola

The following brief installation overview shows how to properly prepare and mount your cupola on any building.

1) Measure the pitch of your roof.

2) Mark the center of the base.

3) Transfer the roof pitch.

4) Mark the curve of the peak.

5) Cut the roof angles.

6) Mark the base location.

7) Set four screw blocks.

8) Screw base to blocks.

9) Screw cupola to base.

10) Screw cupola roof in place.

11) Silicone seal the vane holder.

12) Set weathervane in place.
The overview above is for installing a cupola as an ornamental piece only. If you are going to be using your cupola as a functional air vent you will need to take additional steps - including cutting the proper size hole in your roof, adding screening or mesh, and caulking with a silicone sealant.

How to Choose the Right Size Cupola

There is an old rule of thumb for choosing the right size cupola. The rule is:

'For every foot of unbroken building ridgeline, you should have one inch of cupola', or, 'One foot equals one inch'. So, measure the length of your building's ridgeline and convert the footage directly to inches.

Below are a few examples of our more popular sizes using this rule of thumb.

A utility shed with a 14" cupola.

A one-car garage with an 18" cupolas.
Two 22" cupolas in use on smaller 2 car garages.
Two examples of  26" cupolas installed.
36" cupola on the left and a 30" cupola on the right.
36" cupola on the left and a 48" cupola on the right.

Cupolas up to 6' (72") are available
for larger structures.
