About Our Weathervanes
All of our
weathervanes are made of pure copper and
brass and shaped and pounded into two-sided
figures that are meticulously trimmed and
soldered together by hand.
We design our vanes for optimum wind
direction indication by balancing the
weight, form and pivoting point.
+ All of our weathervanes come with the
hardware shown in the image to the right.
+ Longer shafts are available for mounting
your weathervane in a cupola.
+ Assembly instructions and mounting guide
included with each weathervane.
+ Most of our weathervanes are available in
either verdigris or natural copper
finish.
+ Each weathervane we sell is double checked
before shipping and is 100% fully guaranteed |

Installing Weathervanes
With a
Coppertops Of New Hampshire Cupola: If
you are mounting a weathervane with one of
our cupolas you do not need any mounting
hardware. Our cupolas come ready to accept a
weathervane.
With an existing cupola: If you are
mounting one of our weathervanes in an
existing cupola it must be prepared in the
following manner:
1) Drill a 3/4" hole in the center of
the cupola roof.
2) Secure a brace inside the cupola
and drill a 3/4" hole in the center of that
board.
Without a Cupola: If you are
installing a weathervane without a cupola
you will need to use a roof mount or a side
mount. Roof mounts and side mounts for all
weathervanes are located at the end of each
weathervane size category.
The illustrations to the right shows the
installations of a standard roof mount
[above right] and a standard side mount
[lower right].

Choosing the Correct Size
Weathervanes
With a Cupola:
If you are going to be using a cupola with your
weathervane you must
first choose the right size cupola. Once you
have done this select a weathervane roughly the
same size as the cupola, or within 6 inches
either way. For example, if you decide on a 26"
cupola you will want to choose a weathervane
size between 20" and 30" long.
Without a Cupola: The
most important thing to remember when selecting
a weathervane for any application is that a
weathervane, like anything else, appears smaller
as you get farther away from it. The photos
below are a few examples of our three available
weathervane sizes mounted on various structures.
Notice how the smaller the weathervane is, the
closer to the ground it should be.
|
Medium Size
Weathervanes |
|
|
For
buildings with a peak of no more
than 12 feet tall, like utility sheds,
gazebos, or even small one-car garages.
|
|
Standard Size
Weathervanes |
|
 |
These
have the widest array of uses, with
proper mounts, on a one, two or three
car garage, additions and small barns or
when used with a properly sized cupola.
|
|
Large Size
Weathervanes |
|
|
You will
need a good sized building or
cupola to enjoy one of these
larger weathervanes.

Finishes:
Shiny Copper vs. Verdigris
Copper, like any
untreated metal, reacts to the weather, slowly
turning from a natural reddish-brown color to a
darker brown-black, and eventually to a subtle
verdigris patina, like the Statue of Liberty.

This process,
known as oxidation or weathering, takes
between 4 and 10 years to complete, depending on
the weather conditions where you live. The
process is generally faster near salt water or
in a humid region. It is slower in dry, arid
regions.
Your
natural copper finish weathervane will age
slowly to a verdigris patina. If you prefer not
to wait we can treat your weathervane with a an
acid to give you the verdigris finish.
