Shiny Copper vs. Verdigris

greenvspatinaCopper, like any untreated metal, reacts to the weather, slowly turning from a natural reddish-brown color to a darker brown-black, and eventually to a subtle verdigris patina, like the Statue of Liberty.

This process, known as oxidation or weathering, takes between 4 and 10 years to complete, depending on the weather conditions where you live. The process is generally faster near salt water or in a humid region. It is slower in dry, arid regions.

Your natural copper finish weathervane will age slowly to a verdigris patina. If you prefer not to wait we can treat your weathervane with a an acid to give you the verdigris finish.
